Are you getting in your own way when it comes to growing your business? Most often one of the major reasons why businesses don’t grow is because of beliefs they have built overtime in their industry.
In this video Andy explains that one of the core reasons businesses don’t grow is because they don’t try new “stuff” that would move them from place A to B. Fear often gets in the way when trying out something new in business. Andy’s definition of FEAR is False Expectations Appearing Real. This means that all fear actually is the area of unknowing—because it hasn’t been tried before.
Now if you are courageous business owner, have a growth mindset, and committed to building the business, this fear can be overcome. The challenge is however that business owners that push the boundaries of the unknown are going to face new obstacles too. Now, how these new obstacles are faced and perceived is where the real winners breakthrough.
When we experience something new, we quickly draw up a meaning behind the new experience. If the new experience is first perceived negative then there is a high chance that it will cause the business owner to retract to where they know best. However, this safe haven is not where growth is, thus it leads them back to where they started and with the belief that “that won’t work for them”, and ultimately then develops a wall and an “I know attitude” blocking any further development from having.
If you are wondering how to grow in business, first of all, this retraction needs to be overcome. If we don’t try new things and persist with them then we WILL get left behind, just look at the Kodak camera, or the old Nokia phone.
We have a decision to grow in business, or stay where we are, it is your call and is determined by the story you tell yourself. There is enough evidence around us however to what happens if we don’t grow and get ahead of our field. What actions could you take today to get ahead of the game and grow in business?
